SORRY - THIS IS A LONG MESSAGE

I have a very odd problem that I assume is related to
Windows XP. I have a cookbook program called
Microcookbook 5.0 (producer long ago stopped providing
tech support) on my desktop computer that is running
Windows XP. When I try to print a recipe I get a message
that says:

"The instruction at '0x77f58576' referenced memory
at '0x0c7f891e'. The memory could not be 'read'. Click
on OK to terminate the program."

I can access the same cookbook program, residing on my
desktop, from my wife's networked computer which uses
Windows 98 and print with no error message. If I connect
my laptop computer, using Windows ME, to the network I can
now print the recipe successfully from my desktop computer
(note: the cookbook program is not activiated on the
notebook computer).

I can copy the entire program from my laptop to my
desktop, then disconnect the network connection. I can
then activate the cookbook program on my desktop and print
a recipe. If I turn off that program and then turn it on
again, I get an error message that says:

"WOWEXEC caused an access violation in ntdll.dll at
0x77f580db. Click on CLOSE to terminate the application.
Click on IGNORE to continue, you should save your work in
a new file."

Clicking on IGNORE just causes the message to come up
again. Clicking CLOSE puts me back to my desktop. If I
then reopen the cookbook program and try to print, I am
back to the original error message.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IS WRONG?

Windows XP will not allow direct applications control of
hardware, your program is probably using a obsolete DOS
print command to control the printer port.

This application is so old it is trying access a memory
block that is being used by windows. You should find
another application that is compatible with XP. You will
not be able to fix the problem due to it being hardcoded
into the executable of the old application.
