Cannot re-install GoBack 3 :-(

I reformatted drive C and re-installed the OS (Win 2K Pro). I did not
uninstall GoBack DeLuxe 3 (from Roxio), before doing the deed :-(( Now
when I try to install GoBack from either Norton SystemWorks or from
the original Roxio disk, I get the error:

"Hard Disk #2 already has a partition using the same signature as
GoBack. GoBack cannot be installed on this computer." Glumph! :-((

I explored Symantec's KB and found nothing on the topic. I searched
this newsgroup going back about 75K articles - ditto.

I will never buy another Symantec product. I find their NON-Support
policy unacceptable.

I already know the folly of my ways, but does anyone have any ideas
about a fix?? I really like GoBack. For me, it worked exactly as
advertised. Or, if the conundrum is unsolvable, are there any other
true-and-tested solutions? I guess I could try Ghost, but GoBack was
simple and quick.

I will be grateful for any cogent replies.

Deleting the partition should remove any trace of any application. Your
message indicates drive 2 which may be the second or third drive. Is this
what you're calling the "C" drive?

Don't know. It is the Install program that gives me the error about
"Drive#2."

C drive is my boot drive (20 GB). That drive had its partition deleted
and it was reformatted. After re-installing the OS to drive C, I had
to rename Drive D to Drive G (E & F are a DVD drive and a CD-ROM
writer, respectively). Windows insisted on it, otherwise I couldn't
see its contents (120 GB). Now I have a virtual Drive D that cannot be
accessed, since it doesn't really exist. Norton Systemworks is on
Drive C.

I know nothing of goback but it appears it is finding something it doesn't
like on the 120 gB drive.

It worked, although I did have to go into the registry and clean up
all references to GoBack before I re-installed.

I got this same error after almost losing my 2nd drive (D:).

I am an avid user of Goback and won't be without it ever again. It's
saved my butt about 10 times in the last 3 years.

One day my computer started blue-screening. I troubleshot it down to
the
D: drive as the cause. If I disconnected the D: drive, the computer
would boot like normal with no blue-screen. During one of these
boot-ups (without D: connected), Goback said it's log file was too
corrupt to continue (confused because it couldn't find d:?) and it
proceeded to uninstall itself. Since D: wasn't connected during the
uninstall process, the Goback boot-sector files remained on D:.
Eventually, I fixed the problem with the D: conflict (turned out to be
a stupid BIOS setting), got it back with all its data, and my computer
could operate with both C: and D: connected simultaneously again.

Time to reinstall Goback, right? Wrong... It said;
"Drive #2 already has a partition using the same signature as GoBack"
and something like "Goback cannot be installed on this computer".
Arrgh!!!

I didn't try the fix posted earlier in this thread

because I'm running W2K with NTFS partitions. I'm not sure a '98 boot
disk would really work with my NTFS drives and feared I might mess up
my boot partitions real good.

Instead, I just disconnected my D:, booted up, installed Goback on C:
only, shut down, connected D:, booted up, and Voila! Goback
recognized its log files on both C: and D:.
To be safe, I wanted a clean start so I uninstalled Goback completely
and reinstalled protecting both C: and D:.

Whew! Good as new.

Hope this helps somebody...
