Cannot publish pictures to existing site

I have been publishing and updating this site for 5 years and have not had
any problems until recently. I insert pics into webpage and save then
publish to website and all I get are the infamous red "x" in place of photos
or graphics. When I insert and save pics or graphics I notice that window
that shows that frontpage is saving the pic to the website is not being
displayed. I even tried dropping the picture files into the web folder and
inserting them from there, but still no luck. Has anybody else had this
problem and a solution please.

You need to IMPORT them into your site before using them. File>Import ...
into your images folder.

These images were inserted onto the pages using frontpage 2003. The pages
were then saved and the changed pages republished-- with no effect. The
image files are in the website folder on my hard drive from which point I
publish and upload. This should transfer the files to the host. However,
when I view source on the page the images reference the folder on my hard
drive, not the website at the hosting point. Any Suggestions?

Do you have a web / site open first before you work with your web / site content, as this is
required to avoid have links back to your HD.

I have found that if I do not save the new page first before inserting
images, the file paths refer to my hard drive rather than the actual location.

I open my existing website on my hard drive. Opening the pages to be updated
and inserting the new images using the insert picture function. I then save
the page. Before, when this was done a window would open up telling me that
frontpage was importing and saving the images (even if they were just
overwriting them) to the website. This window does not appear now. I
publish the changed pages using frontpage. The program says it publishes the
changed pages successfully. Yet when viewed on the internet, no images
appear. This only happens with this website. I maintain three others and
have no trouble with updating images on these sites? Any suggestions?
P.S.-- If I go into picture properties when working on the page, I can force
the image to reference the uploaded website location as the source and this
will bring up the pics when published, but only 50% of the time does this
work? What's going on here?

READ the response you got. IMPORT the images rather than insert them.

1. You are browsing outside of your web when inserting the images.
When you insert images, never go above the folder that contains the root of your web.
Simply go to the images folder ( or other folder that contains the image you want to link
to )

If, in the insert image dialog, you browse to My Computer and then C:\ and drill down to
the image FrontPage will create the link as file based.

For example, your image links read:

src="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Linda/My%20Documents/MBHS%201959%20WEBSITE/MBHS_Logo__yellow.gif"

when it should simply be <img border="0" src="MBHS Logo Yellow.gif ">
or <img border="0" src="images/MBHS Logo Yello.gif ">

2. Remove spaces from folder and file names, spaces break links.
Replace them with underscores _ or dashes -

If you want to avoid the problem, you need open the site in FP via File Menu | Open Web/Site, then
import all images into your current open FP web / site, then insert them on your page, then save and
publish the web/ site

It's not any clearer than that!

If you have the files imported to a folder on the website, then right
click on the graphic and look at the Picture Properties it points to.
It has to point to the folder within the web, not a folder somewhere
else on your hard drive.

If you think about the mechanics of this, it may be more clear. When
you publish a web, it is usually published to an off-site server.
Everything the web needs has to be on that server, or pointing to
another website. If you point to something back on your computer,
like
C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Linda/My%20Documents/MBHS%201959%20WEBSITE/Mt.%20Soledad.bmp
There is no way for the offsite website to get back to your computer
to load the picture. It has to find it on the offsite website.

Tried this and no help there. I even pulled the image files out of the
website and server. Then republished without them. Then I placed the images
back in the website folder on my hard drive and inserted them from there
(inside the website) and republished. Still no better off. Just a note
though--- I have inserted hundreds of images and flash presentations from my
documents and frontpage had no trouble finding them, importing them into the
website and when published, linking to them. Isn't that the whole idea of
using the insert picture function in the program? This is a recent
development. The following websites were built this way with no problems:

I understand the mechanics of the image link. My problem is that frontpage
has been linking and importing images correctly on it's own when I insert
pictures from my documents. In the past it has imported the pictures to the
website folder on my hard drive when I inserted the image. Then when
published to remote server frontpage transferred the image to the server as
part of "publishing changed pages." Only now does the program not bring in
the image and instead links to it's location in my documents. This is the
problem. Even if I manually import the image to within the website folder
on my hard drive, when I publish the page the image is not being uploaded
with the corresponding link to the remote location. It still points to my
hard drive. Frontpage is supposed to perform this function-- It always has
for years?

So, try removing the space from current%20events.htm
Then Recalculate hyperlinks.

The Hidden Temporary files.
The Hidden Cache (*.web) files.

And then do what I mentioned in my most recent post above,
try removing the space from current%20events.htm
Then Recalculate hyperlinks.
Then republish the page.
