cannot ping

hi
i see a wierd problem in one of the PC's of the domain.i get request timed
out when i ping to this PC from any other PC in the network.
but when i ping from this Pc to any other pc in the network i get reply.

your quick help is appreciated.

Do you have a firewall installed on said machine? Specifically do you have
it's settings set to "steal" or the like? Stealth mode is accomplished by
eating pings alive and not sending back a return packet saying anything -
not even authorative host not found etc.

the PC has no firewall except for win xp sp2 firewall, the pc was infected
with sypware etc and i ran spybot and micorosoft antisypyware adn removed
some stuff. after this i find this problem.

also i find one more thing, when i go to windows firewall settings, i get
error message saying cannot display due to unindentified problem

Ah, that means that you MIGHT have not completely cleaned out the spyware.
Did you do so in safe mode? Did you rescan after you entered regular mode
again? Have you given LSP-Fix a shot? I know it's not something that you'd
think of right away with this sort of problem but it's cured similar issues
in the past.

Maybe not but it's well worth checking it just to see. It can't hurt
anything...

This can also be due to your WMI store being corrupted. To fix this, open a
command prompt and type the following:

netsh firewall reset

Try opening the firewall.cpl again and see if you see the same error again.
If so, then the LSP fix mentioned in this thread should be applied.
