Cannot open user accounts/help and support/ internet explorer

Hi!

Since quite a while now, i cannot open up the user accounts panel in my
windows xp home computer. And, the same case is valid for the help and
support. Also, I cannot open internet explorer browser. Whenever i
click on the above two, the computer opens the window and it closes in
a flash. The internet explorer doesnt even open.

The computer however, is functioning quite well otherwise. Infact I use
mozilla as internet browser, and it seems to work perfectly well.

I have tried to do various things : scanned for spy-ware, virus etc.
Reinstall the internet explorer using add/remove microsoft componets,
or otherwise, and also installing a new java runtime environment.

This has been quite a bit of bother since long, and i am thinking of
reinstalling the OS as a last resort. Any help to solve the problem
would be nice. Thanks a lot in advance!
 
Forgot to mention. I am using internet explorer version 6, and have the
latest service pack update installed.

I have tried to do system restore as well, and it wont work. I will
greatly appreciate any help in this matter!
