Cannot open the Outlook window

D

Daz

OK, this problem is driving me crazy!

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (64) fully patched up etc etc and no driver
problems that I know of.

I have been happily using Office 2007 Enterprise, and set-up Outlook as the
client for 7 Gmail accounts. All was running fine.

Then out of the blue I get the following error message when I try to start
Outlook:
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window"

Rebooting the laptop did not help any.

The event log is interesting. For each of the pst files used by Outlook, an
error message has been generated with Event ID 30:
"The store [path and file name].pst is being reconciled with the indexer for
the following reason: The store was last opened on a different machine"

I have run scanpst no impact.
I have repaired Outlook/Office
I ran a system restore
I have deleted and installed Office

All the above have no impact.

From my recollection of events, the one thing I did between Outlook working
and not was install XP Mode and Virtual PC in Windows.

I did think that the uninstall of Office would have removed any reference to
the pst files or other settings when the software was reinstalled. But the
event viewer indicates that the same pst files are being accessed.

Any constructive ideas?

Thanks for reading!

Start Outlook with the resetnavpane switch;
Start-> type; outlook.exe /resetnavpane
(note the space in the command)

Robert,

Many thanks! A perfect answer.

What would have caused the problem?

Thanks again!

You're welcome! :)

Brian is right, it could have been caused by an update. There are also some
reports where it has been caused by the naming convention of some folders
that have been marked as a Favorite Folder. If that has been the case for
you, try to rename the folder and avoid using any special characters.

All of these messages apply to me except that outlook.exe/ resetnavpane does
not work. Installed two updates three days ago. Everything fine until a
couple of hours ago.

Have searched all of the questions and answers. All give same solution, but
it won't work for me. Running Win7 and Office Pro 2007.

I am really desperate. On deadline for client. HELP!

Try creating a new mail profile. Control Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add.

There is no need to post in multiple threads. Perhaps if you were to read one
of the many answers you've received already, yopu'd know why it doesn't work.
Enter the command correctly.
