cannot open sites

I am getting an error when browsing the internet with
internet explorer that says that it
internet explorer cannot open internet site http:/**
operation aborted
It mostly occurs with message board type sites. But I've
been to these sites before and now they do not work.
I've recently installed the Windows XP service pack 2
But this started before that. It was only happening with
one site, but now is occurring with many others.
Please HELP!

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.
