I have tried opening PDF files for Transport for London & UK government
sites & the pages won't open. In fact I don't seem to be able to open any
PDF files from the internet. Internet Explorer just freezes & only the task
manager will allow me to close it.

PDF files I have on the computer open with no problem.

Any ideas please?

One thing that had the same results as you are seeing is that Adobe would
put up it's User Agreement page up behind the IE window. Since the IE
window was locked by the Adobe program, you couldn't do anything with it.
This made it look frozen.

Boot, open IE and make it VERY small and in the corner of the screen. Try
and open a PDF from the internet and see if anything odd pops up.

Adding to the good advice by Noozer, try to Uninstall Adobe and Reinstall it
again and look for updates, or you can look for update before uninstall and
see if that will solve the problem if not then the Adobe may corrupted and
you need to uninstall and Reinstall to correct the issue.
HTH.
Let us know.

Thank you. I tried both your suggestions. Noozer's didn't work so I
uninstalled Adobe Reader 7 & installed in its place version 8 which opens
the pages, I tried before, with no problem. Whether my earlier version was
corrupt I'll never know however I'm very pleased that I can now open the
files I need.

Try using Foxit. Much smaller and does same job.
