Can't open PDF files once I download from Internet

I have been trying to open several PDF files that I have downloaded from the
internet and I have been very unsuccessful. Could someone give me some
advice on how to do this.

What program (and version) did you install to read PDF files?
What do you mean by "unsuccessful"? Exactly what happens when you try
and open one?

I have used Adobe Reader. By unsuccessful I mean nothing happens, I have
gotten a page to show up that is all encoded and most of the time it just
doesn't open up at all.

Can you give the URL of one of these downloads and someone may test to
see if it valid in either Adobe Reader or some other reader?

An example:
http://www.acronymfinder.com/af-query.asp?Acronym=url&Find=find&string=exact

Now, please supply the URL or web address of a PDF file so someone can
check it.
