I used OL 2003

What do you use now?
and it failed to double click

It, being Outlook, doesn't do the double-clicking.
open the .MSG file attachment file, but before it can.

In Windows Explorer, Tools -> Folder Options, File Types, what program
is associated with the MSG filetype? Is there a MSG filetype defined
there?

Yes, it does a MSG filetype defined as Outlook Item.

What happens if you elect to save the attached .msg file to your hard
drive and then double-click on it (inside of Windows Explorer)? That
is, try opening it as a file on your hard drive rather than as an
attachment within an e-mail.

If you have Google Desktop Search installed, either uninstall it or change
its properties to not index mail.

I am unable to open any .msg attachments, I realize that when I go to chinese
restaraunts I insist on no msg, but this is going to far....

anyway, outlook 2007, fresh install on vista business. I did install front
page and publisher 2003 after the 2007 install, perhaps I might need to do a
detect and repair on the 2007 suite, any ideas??, oh, also they installed
google desktop afterwards, (YUK)

thanks

Thanks Brian, I did find about 3 solutions, I started with the google one and
I did resolve the issue with uninstalling google desktop, which by the way
worked on the last version of windows vista about 60 days ago, it must have
just been the latest version of google.

thanks

Hope u dont mind me jumping on your post.

Anyone getting a [this value is not valid for the Status field] error when
opening in Outlook 2007??? (running on WinXP sp2)
I have an old archive.pst that was over 2GB and corrut, Cut it down to 1GB
and ran scanpst. The inbox is find but the recovered items, which is the
contents of my sent items dont open in Outlook 07 (displays the message)

Opening the repaired archive.pst in Outlook 2003 preview and opens emails
fine. Also able to view when i forward the email from a Outlook 03 PC to a 07
PC.

Emails are formatted HTML, Rich text and plan text but non of them open
unless forwarded from outlook 03

I'm glad it worked for you. Ohters have reported that if you download the
most recent version, Google has fixed the problem.

Brian Tillman, once again you have given great advice that has helped me as
well as those you originally replied to. I can always count on your accuracy
and simplicity (you give clear, succinct answers that I can understand and
implement). Thank you so much for being part of the newsgroups.
