Cannot Open Javascript Window - Cache Problem?

J

Jason

When I click on a link that is javascript, there is no
action (no opening, no error message, nothing.)

I've seen a reference to this problem with other people,
but no solution. I think its a browser caching problem. If
I clear the cache by deleting the Temporary Internet Files
and then reopen IE6, I CAN open the Javascript window.
The second time I go to the page and try to open the
Javascript link, it does not work.

I'm running Win98SE and IE6. I have tried every patch,
update, script engine update, etc. available from
Microsoft. I haven't tried using a different browser yet.

Thanks for the help.

Have you tried Tools | Internet Options | Security | Custom Level?

I had not tried that yet. All scripting seems to be
enabled. My Microsoft VM setting was on High Safety, but
I tried the three different safety levels and none had an
effect.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

Some great suggestions - I really liked the resources
available at those pages. I went to the "Unwanted
Spyware, Parasites..." webpage and made the settings
changes they suggested. I found someone with a "Publisher
Certificate" that I didn't recognize, so deleted it. Also
installed and ran the Adware freeware and the CSShredder.
I had run the Adware a couple of months ago, but ran it
again and it found a few things. The CSShredder did not
find the "CoolWebSearch" on my computer. I did NOT run
the SpyBot or HiJackThis since the "aumha.org" website
recommended these for experts. Do you think I should
still try these other two spyware catchers or is there
perhaps something else to try next?

Thank you.

Yes. As with Ad-Aware, run Spybot's update function before any scan.
