Cannot open attached files

Hey folks. I cannot open attached files. When I click on
it it brings up a logic box saying that it is Plain Text,
then if I click open it tells me "This action is only
valid for products currently installed.

(These are .xls, .doc files...all of which I have)

Care to ask a question and provide the version of Outlook and you Operating
System?

Sorry,

The question is fairly simple. How do I get the program to
correctly attribute files to their particular program. I
am using Outlook 2003 and Windows XP
