cannot open an Excel file

When attempting to open an Excel 2003 file either from an
internet site, from an e-mail attachment, or from a floppy
disk, I am receiving the following error message:
"Acrobat could not open (file name, in .xls format)
because it is either not a supported file type or because
the file has been corrupted." Help!
 
Hi Tim
is Excel 2003 installed on this machine as your system tries to open
the file with Adobe Acrobat??
