Cannot Move Files in Windows Explorer

P

Pelvis

I have a strange problem and don't have a clue how to fix it. I cannot move
files by drag-and-drop nor cut and paste in Windows Explorer. Explorer shows
the file moving but the operation never ends. I have tried to cancel the
operation and restart but I get a message telling me that the file is in use.
This problem occurs regardless of the size or type of file. However, I can
copy a file and delete the original with no problem. Any ideas?

Hi Pelvis,

This is a nasty problem, you can try:

Run/cmd fsc /scannow
There it should tell you if theres any system's file damaged, if it happens
that it is a .dll you can try to replace with a new one taken from a
friend's computer with same SO and Service Pack.

You can try to download also process monitor
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx?PHPSESSID=d926
start it and then reproduce the problem, stop it, there tou will be able to
find out the dependences associated with the processes that are causing the
problem.

If you are unable to solve this way, make a reparation install, boot with
the XP, enter, F8 to accept the therms and so on, and then press R, this
will replace all the System Files than could be corrupted somehow and solve
the problem, your personal data and apps will remain, the only thing you
should do is update windows.

Hope this will help,
Luis.
