Cannot make HTTP Connection

I ran XPnetDiag API on my XP partition where I haven't been able to connect
to the web and got an error 12007 that during connection to
www.microsoft.com the server name and address could not be resolved. Could
not make HTTP connection. the same errors pretty much followed on FTP and
HTTPS connectivity.

Everything else was perfect. My static IP address was found. Network
connection was disabled and again enabled.

I got the same result half a year ago. I then installed Vista on another
partition and moved over there. I still want to revive this one.

I did the following things: Tried to install with repair option XP from a
totally different DVD with a different product key. No connection.

I uninstalled and installed all Windows Component that seem to be related to
networking: Internet Explorer, OE, IIS. No connection.

Where are the drivers that are responsible for this HTTP/FTP/HTTPS address
resolution? Perhaps I could upgrade them?

Thanks.

Sounds to be that you have DNS name resolution problems?
If you run nslookup in a cmd prompt does it let you ask for external DNS
names?

Can you surf to this address: http://207.46.192.254
(it is one of the IP addresses to www.microsoft.com)

Can you ping your default gateway?
