I cannot logon to to secured sites, like hotmail and msn
explorer, msn messenger and other sites that require a
logon/password entry. I search on knowledge bae and I
get docs about Procxy cashing or security settings for
IE. I use XP home edition and ie 6.0. Do I need to
reinstall ie, change setting. etc?

Thanks

You Cannot Access Your MSN E-mail Account or Authenticate with a Web Site in
Various Programs
When you try to access your MSN e-mail account, you may receive the
following error message:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be
experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser
settings... Cannot find server or DNS Error
You cannot successfully authenticate with a Web site in various programs
(for example, Windows Media Player). For example, you may be prompted for
your user name and your password several times, and you may receive the
error message that is described in this section or an other error message
from the Web site that indicates that you cannot access even after you type
the correct user name and password.

I had the exact same problem with some websites, like
hotmail.com and yahoo mail inbox (and others). Extensive
google searching revealed that other people have
encountered the same problem. But none of the solutions
posted (like changing security settings of the IE etc.)
worked for me. Finally the answer turned out to be the
MTU setting of my DSL modem (I found the solution in some
newgroup, but forgot which). I decreased it to 1400, and
the problem went away like magic! There is a tool called
DrTCP available on the net. Download it and try
decreasing the MTU of your modem. Let the group know if
your problem went away.

I have been unable to login on to my Hotmail account for
several months now using Internet Explorer and even Crazy
Browser, but when I downloaded Mozilla Firebird I could
then login. I contacted the Help Desk for MSN, but they
kept ignoring my e-mails. My step-son called from college
the other night and he was experiencing the same problem,
but with all his login accounts, such as the college,
yahoo and Hotmail just to name a few, so I had him
download Mozilla and voila it worked. Explore wasn't let
me login either at home on a dialup or at work on a T1
line. So does anybody have any ideas what's going on. The
support for Hotmail was less than useless.
Thanks,
Mike
