Cannot login into XP. Logs in and immediate logs off

Daryl

Hi All,

I have traversed through all 80+ pages under this heading
and have not been able to identify a similar problem. So
I was helping if someone can possibly assist.

Whenever I switch on my laptop, the welcome panel appears
and traditionally, the desktop would load automatically.

Now it flickers, then returns back to the log in screen.

So when I do ask it to log me in under my user ID, the
message below my user name says the following.
1. Logging in. Loading personal preferences
2. Logging off. Saving personal preferences

The screen does not change, and that is all I can do.
Using admin accounts, debug mode, safety mode all
produces the same response.

Can anybody please advise. Your comments will be greatly
appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

Daryl.

It sounds as though your user ID may be corrupt. Please check the following
Knowledge Base Article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q318011

The above will tell you how to access the hidden machine administrator
account. Once in, before proceeding, you may want to run a virus scan to be
sure you don't have a virus causing this issue. Be sure your antivirus
application is up to date.
