Hi,

I changed the network ID of my Win2000 Pro laptop, so that I could share a
printer over the network. It was set to use a domain but I changed it to use
a workgroup, as required by the network sharing the printer.

However, having now restarted the PC it won't allow me to login even though
the password and user name are correct as I use before.

THIS IS URGENT!!

TIA

I think you are using a domain so you must set it back to domain (if that
goes) then you must set your printer to a netwerkprinter and from another
computer you must add a printer then search the domain and then you find it.

you can also login as administrator if you have the password

Will the machine have an administrator account because I beleieve that is
why I can't login as my user name is set for a domain or something.

I can't get in to change anything!!

The only way yo can get in is with the administrator account to change it
again.
If you dont have a password for this account you mus t ask it your network
administrator

The user name and password are not correct. You are trying to use a domain
user account which is no longer valid on your laptop because the laptop is
no longer joined to the domain. When you join a workgroup you are required
to logon with a local user account which must be created on the local
machine before you join the workgroup. Frequently, local user accounts are
created with user names and passwords which match the domain user account -
apparently, this was not done in your case. You have 3 options:

1. There should be a built-in local user account called 'administrator'.
Try to logon with this user name - it may or may not have a password. If it
has a password and you don't know what it is, you can try to hack it, or see
#3

2. If you happen to have a VPN connection to the domain, check the box for
Logon using dialup connection at the logon screen - you may be able to logon
this way.

3. Take the laptop back to the domain IT people and beg for mercy.
