Cannot load windows xp pro

Trying to install XP PRO using a new ECS motherboard
model L7S7A2. Chip is AMD 2600+. 256 meg of DDR of
memory.

When system was new everything loaded and worked fine.
System would not work with my old video card and I
ordered a replacement. It is a nVIDIA INNO 3D TORNADO
GeFORCE FX 5200.

I used a PNY VERTO GeFORCE FX in the interim and
everything worked fine. I started to receive hard drive
error messages, did a diagnostic and replaced the Hard
drive.

The new drive arrived at the same time as the new card
and I replaced them both at the same time and that is
when the trouble started. I could not load windows XP
PRO. It would load to a certain point and stop, giving
an error message. I have the message if it would be any
help. I reinstalled the PNY video card with the same
problem.

Card manufacturer suggested a driver error but if cannot
load an operating system, I'm not sure how I can load any
new drivers.

Any ideas,
waltwin

This sounds a bit like you're being led up the garden path by a dodgy
motherboard. I suspect that if you swap out the motherboard, your problems
will vanish. ...so long as you don't get two bad ones in a row that is ! I
fitted two ECS boards a while ago ...is that Elitegroup ...or were they
PcChips under yet another name ? I forget now... Eagletech ...they were
PcChips ...I wonder why they keep doing that ? ...anyway, horrid boards
because it's 50/50 that you get a good one.

regards, Richard

ps the good ones are fine, when they're ok !

What you could try to do is to load XP and keep hitting the F8 key to
get the different boot menu options. Once there, load XP using the VGA
mode. This will cause XP to load using generic video drivers that
should be able to get you 'in' and update your current drivers.
