Cannot Load Central.dll msg

After deleting my old version (v10) of McAfee VirusScan, and installing
McAfee VirusScan Plus, I get the message "Cannot Load Central.dll". This
occurs when I start Disk Cleanup from the Local Disk (C) properties screen.
It goes through the analysis, and fails when I continue to actually do the
cleanup. It used to somehow activate McAfee Quick Clean as part of the disk
cleanup operation. I can run Quick Clean from the new McAfee Control Center
OK. Is this a Windows XP problem? Is the file Central.dll part of Windows
XP, or McAfee? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have not found any other
problems yet.
Thanks for your help. Charles Ranheim

This is a McAfee problem.

See if this helps,

Get, 'Cannot load 'Central.dll' error - running Win XP

If the above suggestion does not work, I would uninstall all McAfee products
listed in the Add/Remove Programs list then re-install the McAfee products
or contact McAfee Support.

I have been working with McAfee people on the McAfee Help forum. So far,
there has not been a resolution. I don't understand why McAfee even gets
involved when you start a Disk Cleanup from Windows XP. Some where in the
past, when I ran Disk Cleanup from Windows, it would go to McAfee Quick
Clean lite to complete the cleanup. Since installing the new McAfee
Virusscan (after removing the old version), I have had this problem. It
appears the windows disk cleanup routine was modified at some point in time
to include the Mcafee cleanup routines. If that was true, and I got rid of
Mcafee programs, how would the windows Disk Cleanup ever work again? I would
think it would just keep looking for the McAfee routines to do the cleanup.
I would sure like to hear your thoughts on this.
How could I get the standard Windows cleanup to work by itself again, short
of a complete operating system reload. I really don't want to do that.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I would image if you uninstall the McAfee product then the installer should
fix the Windows Cleanup utility. If the uninstalltion of the McAfee Product
does not fix the Windows Cleanup utility the I would suggest a repair
install of Windows XP.

William Crawford,
Thanks for your input. I did find a "Work Around" to my problem. I
noticed when I start Disk Cleanup from Windows XP, it first goes through
some analysis to collect files to delete. Then, the screen comes up with
options to select what you want to delete. I normally don't look at the ones
that have the default check marks, but this time I did. There was a check
mark in the block labeled Quick Clean Lite. I don't even know when this
selection was made available. One of the past levels of McAfee VirusScan
must have included this option, and checked it on. I tried unchecking this
option, and it continued the Disk Cleanup without going to Quick Clean Lite,
or getting the error. Before installing the new version VirusScan Plus 2007,
it used to go into a quick clean Lite routine without the error. Now, it
just goes in the error "Cannot Load Central.dll" error. The new VirusScan (v
11) must oprtate differently than my previous version (v 10). Unless McAfee
can come up with a fix, (which they probably won't), I will probably have to
live with what I have left. Trying a windows repair sounds like a risky
task. This is my only XP machine and really need it to work every day. Let
me know if anything else come to mind. Charles Ranheim
