cannot join domain

Guest

im trying to become a member of a domain here at work with one of the users
laptops and i try to join the domain, it asks for the admin login and
password and then after i do that it tells me "The specified domain either
does not exist or could not be contacted." I then go to windows explorer and
try to browse the network finding that only a few computers and servers are
showing up and allowing me to browse its shared documents. i try to enter
\\servername into the address bar of a server that is not listed but it
doesn't see it. i thought it might be a firewall problem (ie: zone alarm) but
all he has is norton internet security which i disabled anyways to be safe,
yet i still cannot join the domain. any suggestions?

The first thing to check is your TCP/IP configuration - the computer you're
trying to join to the domain should have only the domain DNS address listed
in the list of DNS servers it queries for name resolution.
