Hans

I have tryed for weeks now to install Win XP Home on my
computer, but every time i get a blue screen saying that
installation was stoped to prevent damage to my computer,
with the following technical data,
0x000000D1(0xDEDC825C,0x0000001F,0x00000000,0xDEDC825C)

It means nothing to me and i could not find anything
related to it on Google or the Microsoft database, it
happens when setup has gone into DOS to install the OS
sumtime during installation, the spesific time can vary.
Can this be something to do with the motherboard i use?
The Compatibility check does not say that any of my
hardware is incompatible!!

Another general question, the same computer currently
runs Windows 98, it has had a fresh format and reinstall,
but I get constant blue screens with errors on, for no
particular reason, I may just be typing a Word document
or listening to music but the computer will crash and
mess up, this is one of the main reasons why I want XP on
the comp so it will hopefully run better, thanks for any
help that can be offered

If you tried to install xp as an upgrade install to win98 and your win98
isn't running right, your no doubt going to have probs(as you found out). I
would boot to the winxp cd and do a format and clean install of xp. Backup
anything you need to first.

Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmd_stp_ottj.asp

The Stop 0xD1 message indicates that the system attempted to access pageable
memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. Drivers that have used
improper addresses typically cause this error.
Interpreting the Message

This Stop message has four parameters:
Memory referenced.
IRQL at time of reference.
Type of access (0x00000000 = read operation, 0x00000001 = write operation).
Address that referenced memory.

Resolving the Problem

For additional troubleshooting suggestions that apply to all Stop errors,
see "Stop Message Checklist" later in this appendix.
Stop 0xD1 messages can occur after installing faulty drivers or system
services. If a driver is listed by name, disable, remove, or roll back that
driver to confirm that this resolves the error. If so, contact the
manufacturer about a possible update. Using updated software is especially
important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners,
DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.

For more information about Stop 0xD1 messages, see the Microsoft Knowledge
Base link on the Web Resources page at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/reskits/webresources. Search using keywords
winnt, 0x000000D1, and 0xD1.

These 'D1' stops usually indicate either driver trouble, or bad or
mismatched RAM. Look around for any devices you could disconnect while
doing the setup, especially USB ones
