cannot install usb devices on msi k9n neo-f mainboard

Hi,

Thanks for reading.

On my brothers computer we installed a new mainboard: msi k9n neo-f.

Than we installed winxp SR2.
Problem is that the usb mouse and usb webcam don't function.
When we plug the mouse or camera in, the system recognizes that there is
"new hardware", it starts installing, but fails with a general error
containing code 28.

Also, the mouselight is on during the boot process of the the computer,
but goes out as soon as windows starts in the boot procedure.

In hardware tab of device control, the usb ports are ok, but the mouse
has a yellow exclamation point mentioning no driver installed.

Any help is much appreciated

Error code 28 means the device isn't fully installed. If uninstalling,
scanning for hardware changes and reinstalling fails to install the device,
check the device manufacturers support site for updated drivers and install them
per their instructions.

I'm afraid your suggestion didn't help me. The mouse is the simplest
Logitech optical mouse ("Value optical mouse" is it called) and the
Logitech site says there is no software for this mouse avaiable.

Also the same problem occurs for his digital camera. Plugging it in the
usb port results in the same problems, while it used to de recognized as
an extra disk drive. Now. it simply doesn't work at all.

Did you install chipset drivers ?

Does your Device Manager have any appropriately marked entries for USB ?

Yes, we did. Installed the drivers from the CD taht came with the mobo
and used Live Up[date to check for chipset driver updates (were not
available).
There was a bios upgrade available, but since I'm a bit reluctant to
flash bios is not necessary we didn;t do that. Cannot imagine that being
what caused it.

I asked my broth to check this: he said nothing strange there. He has
got the right amount of entries there, but I make sure he looka again
tomorrow.

If you want help, better repost either the name or
error number of the error message you see. Were
all the essential XP Services switched on?
