Cannot install this hardware windows cannot find software.

Several months ago I built a new PC using the ECS GF7100PVT-M3 MB.

Recently I noticed that I wasn't getting any sound from the speakers. When
I went to device manager, I also noticed that there appeared to be a problem
with the device.

I went to the ECS website and downloaded the current drivers for the onboard
soundcard, however, at the end of the install I get the message "Cannot
install this hardware. Windows is unable to find the software.

Each time I reboot, it detects the soundcard and tries again to do the
install, but with the same results.

I suspect that this is some sort of registry issue. But I'm really not sure
how to solve it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Install manually ? - does it not give an option to browse to where the
drivers are ?

Yes, I've tried that and still received the same message.

I see what appears to be two entries for the same sound device in the Device
Manager. One appears under "Sounds, video and game controllers" and when I
check properties, it tells me that the device is working properly.

However, just above the "Sounds, video...." is another entry for what looks
like the same device and it's flagged in yellow. Properties show that no
drivers were loaded.

I've deleted this 2nd entry from the Device Manager, but when I reboot, it
reappears. This leads me to believe that there is a bad entry in my System
Registry, and this is causing some sort of device conflict or ??

In any case, I'm not sure how to correct it.

I've contacted ECS support (several days ago) but so far, no response.

Delete *both* entries and try again .
