Cannot Install any program on my computer

Hi,

I am the administrator on my home computer (Win XP). However, when I
try to install a program (especially Norton Anti Virus) on my computer,
it just keeps closing the installation file. I tried reloading windows,
but it shuts the windows installer too!! I had Norton AV installed on
my computer, but it wouldn't let me update that either. Has anyone else
had a problem like this? I am not sure what to do. I have Spy Sweeper
(full edition that I bought from Best Buy) installed on my computer,
but that does not detect any spyware and it updates itself regularly.
But apart from that, I am stuck.

Thanks in Advance

Have you tried removing Spy Sweeper completely? Have you shut down all
running apps with End It All? Look at what is running on your system with
this:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ Try removing apps one at a time if you have to
until you find the problem. I personally would avoid Norton all together.
Grisoft AVG is better and free.
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01.

1. Run End It All
2. Remove Norton and SS
3. Try installing Grisoft AVG

Post back with results.

Thanks for your help guys.. but still no luck. Removed all programs -
Norton, Spy Sweeper!! It does not let me even open the web page with
the Grisoft AVG. The webpage shuts itself every 2-3 seconds. This
happens with some other websites too. Please help!!

I would listen to what J.B. says about forgetting Norton; caused me much
trouble with my business files until I was informed by someone in the know to
get rid of it; since then, no loss of data.
