Cannot install any printer

I have recently aquired a HP deskjet 690C Windows detects
when plugged in and goes through the instalation process
then fails at the end saying an error has occured. I have
tried installing manually but when you click the finish
wizard it errors again and says operation aborted.
Any ideas apart from a reformat. Used the restore points
to no avail

Are you logged on as an Administrator or a User with Administrative
privileges?
