Cannot go to Standby in Shutdown mode

When I press START/turn off computer/standby nothing
happens.This just started and the command sequence always
worked fine. I get no error messages and other shut down
modes-shut down and restart work fine. What can I do to
restore the standby shutdown mode?

Can you use a restore point from before this problem began?
