Cannot get to desktop mode

When I boot the comp., it freezes at the xp logo screen and does not go to
the desktop mode. I cannot get to safe mode also. I read somwhere that in
similar cases the userinit.ex file may have been deleted by accident. I
copied that file from another comp. and loaded into the problem comp. Still
nothing works. How to solve this problem? Is there a way to do a back up of
files from the DOS command mode? Thanks.

Hey Mac,

Did you update any drivers recently? I've had this happen to me many times.
Sometimes I get lucky and I can roll back a driver, but it usually takes
many attempts to reboot in safe mode. The systems usually lock up at
mup.sys or something like that.

Let me know if this is the case, it might be faster to just do a paralell
install of xp.
