Cannot get client net access thru server

T

Tom

Ok. Been having this trouble for a while. Got a server
for a class. Win 2000, AD. 2 nic cards, both static ip
addresses. DNS. DHCP. And RRAS all configured. Now, on
the client it recieves the ip address, dns, and
everything, but it cannot get onto the net. I can ping my
external nick, but nothing beyond.

Now, what should be the my gateway for the client? That
is the thing I cannot figure out. I have even gone so far
as to put a static settings in but to no avail.

Now, here is the ipconfig /all for the server:

Marina Roos [SBS-MVP]

Hi Tom,

Did you have a look at my reply to your other post? Because you have 2 nics,
the 003 option should point to your server-IP.
Also, the ipconfig on your external nic can never be right, because of the 2
different IP-ranges for IP and Gateway: 24.220.168.77 and 24.220.160.1
You better stick in a router between your external nic and DSL-modem.

Tom

Marina, thanks.

So your saying there is absolutely no way I can do this
without my own router? hmmmm... that makes sense and
makes me learn what I need to learn.

But when you say the 003 option should point to my server
ip, do you mean the external or internal ip?

Again, thanks. Now I'll just go get a Linksys router and
I can set that up easily enough.

Ok. Been having this trouble for a while. Got a
server
for a class. Win 2000, AD. 2 nic cards, both static ip
addresses. DNS. DHCP. And RRAS all configured. Now,
on
the client it recieves the ip address, dns, and

ping my
external nick, but nothing beyond.

Now, what should be the my gateway for the client?
That

Hi Tom,

A router will simplify things for you a lot. And they're not that expensive.
003 should point to your internal server-IP if you're using 2 nics.

Danny Slye - [MSFT}

You don't need a router because Windows 2000 Server can be your router.
There are some advantages of having a second router, mostly in terms of
flexibility.
--------------------
I get that, but can I do with Windows server or do I need
a router?
-----Original Message-----
You need NAT
--------------------
For RAS I have it set to just be a router. There isn't
anything more I can do than that, is there?

-----Original Message-----
Did you configure RRAS with NAT?

Ok. Been having this trouble for a while. Got a server
for a class. Win 2000, AD. 2 nic cards, both static ip
addresses. DNS. DHCP. And RRAS all configured. Now, on
the client it recieves the ip address, dns, and
everything, but it cannot get onto the net. I can ping
my
external nick, but nothing beyond.

Now, what should be the my gateway for the client? That
is the thing I cannot figure out. I have even gone so
far
as to put a static settings in but to no avail.

Now, here is the ipconfig /all for the server:
