Cannot ftp with IE6 nor with commandline on Laptop w/XP Pro

Tony S.

I am experiencing a problem on my XP Pro install on my laptop
when trying to connect to the office ftp site.

When I use IE6, I get prompted for userid and password that
is successful, however I never get s directory or list of files
or message. The only thing that happens is the hourglasses shows up
and never loads a list.

Now the same things happens when I use the command line interface,
with the "ftp" command. I can log in successfully but no other functions
or commands work. For example from the command line after logging into the
ftp site I issue a "dir" command and nothing happens.

I know the ftp site is accessible because from my desktop machine running
XP Pro also, I can access the same ftp site using the same account sand password.

There is nothing else I think of to check. Firewall protection is not enabled,
I've keep the cache, cookies, reset the IE security settings to
default and still nothing.

I've different NICs, I currently have 2 installed in my laptop and have tried
a 3rd one which is wireless.

I have all the latest XP updates installed.

The only other thing I can try is restoring the system to an earlier time.

I believe maybe there's a key in the registry that can help

Has anyone come across a problem like this?

Any thought's or ideas are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
