cannot ftp through cable but dialup OK

running XP

just moved from dial-up to cable

have problems with cable that work fine with dialup

cannot download ftp files ....

click on file to download and wind up at a screen that
says ... The page cannot be displayed

Yet, I can do exactly the same download with no problem
through my dialup

Therefore this is not a firewall or antivirus issue.

I also am able to ftp from the command line without
problem

Similar problems with www.weather.com desktop ... it will
not display with cable, but is OK with dialup. Cable
error message is ... You Must Connect to the Internet
to use Weather desktop.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Is XP firewall enabled on the Cable connection but not Dial Up

You can try reinstalling TCP/IP.

solved the problem ... yippee!

needed to remove the dialup connections and then everything was fine

ftp and programs were apparently looking to the dialup for a connection.

now all is well
