ftp download problem from cable; dialup OK

M

Murs

running XP

just moved from dial-up to cable

cannot download ftp files ....

click on file to download and you wind up with a screen
that says ...
The page cannot be displayed

tried right click and chose Save Target As ... this gives
me an error message as follows ...
Internet Explorer cannot download...filename...from site
A connection with the server could not be established.

Can download with no problem through my dialup; cannot
download through cable. Therefore this is not a firewall
or antivirus issue.

This is not the problem in Knowledge Base article 816037,
as I already have a more current version of Urlmon.dll

While I am behind a firewall (Norton Internet
Security),even if I turn it off, I continue to have the
same
problem.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Thanks.

Hello,

Have you checked that you are using PASSIVE transfer mode for FTP?

You can find the setting here:

- Tools --> Internet Options
- Select the "Advanced" control tab
- Under "Browsing" select "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem
compatibility)"

I understand that you are on a cable modem, but the problem behavior is
similar.

Hope this helps.
