Cannot Format CD's/DVD's

I have a problem in that I cannot format or write CD's/DVD's in either of my
CD/DVD drives. I can read ok from either drive but I can't format or write. I
can format floppy drives or hard disks just fine. I am pretty convinced that
the problem with formatting CD's/DVD's is to do with the Nero software I have
installed. It was originally installed by the company that built this
computer for me and worked with no problem until I had to reformat my hard
disk and reinstall the operating system due to virus infection.

To honest I'd be happy to get rid of the nero software if I could as I have
no real use for it, as I say it was already installed when I bought the
computer. I have tried to remove it but when I did I could not access either
of my CD drives at all. I am running Windows XP Professional and would have
assumed that this operating system would include all the necessary drivers
and support for all CD/DVD activity. Any help with this problem would much
oblidged.

I looked in system information and it shows the first drive as DVD RW IDE
16X. The second drive is shown as SAMSUNG CD RW/DVD SM-352 F. Until I had
the virus problem and had to reinstall the operating system I could read and
write to either drive.
