cannot force HAL to multiprocessor mode

hi,
i just did some major upgrades to my computer, including switching to a
dual processor Tyan Tiger 230 motherboard. however, XP (Professional) does
not seem to recognize the 2nd processor at all. i've tried to force a
harware abstraction layer during installation (according to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299340); however the
only two options present are "Standard PC with C-Step i486" and "Other".
would appreciate anybody's help. thanks

If current HAL is Standard one, do not force installation but first finish
regular in-place upgrade. If during second in-place upgrade there wouldn't
be ACPI HALs, delete HKLM\HARDWARE branch :) and upgrade.

Did you scroll down (Down Arrow) through the HAL options during install;
normally, you see only the first 2 options, but you can scroll down - there
should be 5 or 6 options.
