Hi All,
I'm troubleshooting a slow boot XP (home edition, SP2, Sony Vaio) for my
friend. It takes over 4 mins at Windows XP logo screen at startup.

What I've done are,
Full system Virus scan. (No virus found)
Full system Spyware scan and deleted all founds.
Empty all temp files and defragment C drive.

I've even selected "Diagnostic Startup" as the boot option, the Windows
still boot very slowly. Any suggestion on what else or what utility tools I
can try. Reinstall is the last option.

Thanks

Calvin

MSCONFIG and start disabling Startup programs to find the offending
one. Keep track of what you have done.

I found that when I loaded Norton Internet Security, the boot up time
virtually doubled. If you have Norton Internet Security AND Norton System
Works, you may well more than double the time that it took without them..

How to preform a clean boot
MS KB Article ID: 310353
Also run Bootvis it may offer clues as to what is hanging / slow to
load during boot.
