cannot find setup.exe when running a setup program

It only happens for certain setup.exe programs
I can run other <file>.exe
I can also run windows setup programs
I do not think it is a virus as I Checked the registry,
win.ini and system.ini
Any help is very much appreciated as it will save me
reformatting and re-installing

If these programs are on CD, they may be using an older autorun.inf file.
Some of those never worked right anyhow. I've also run into a few with
newer programs that don't trigger the setup routine like they should. In
these cases, open Windows Explorer. Click on the icon for the cdrom
drive. Then double click on the setup.exe file.
