setup doesn't run on my win 7 dvd

Alex McFarlane

Dear All,
I wish to UPGRADE (not clean install) my vista ultimate to win 7 ultimate.
I put the win 7 (full version) DVD in my computer, setup ran and told me to
remove Kaspersky anti-virus.
I removed Kaspersky anti-virus and did the requested re-boot.
Now when I put the win 7 DVD in, setup does not run. When I try to double
click on the DVD drive in explorer I get a readme text file and that's all.
Trying to run: d:\setup.exe in the run command on the start menu and at a
command prompt does not work either.
I can boot from the DVD but that is only for a clean install, which I don't
want to do.
How can I get vista to run the setup program?
Please do tell.

Ask the Smallbone to help you. He says he's an expert.

Or ask Frank who will probably insult you.

I think you should nuke Vista and go for Ubuntu, a real operating
system. Get it free at www.ubuntu.com

I think you should NOT nuke Vista and stay away from Ubuntu, a real crappy
operating system. Get it free at <SNIP DISGUSTING LINK>

Try right-clicking on the DVD drive and select Explore. If that works you
can double click on the Setup file.

And your solution for the OP is?

None? Why am I not surprised?

And your solution for the OP was getting rid of his current OS and software
to spend many hours trying to learn some INFERIOR OS that NOBODY wants? HA
HA HA HA - You really gave NO SOLUTION, but insulted the OP. What a DOPE

Hey idiot, people don't like your childish responses to their questions. If
you don't know the answer (which you certainly don't), then don't post
trash. You really are a ****WIT.

Get it free at www.ubuntu.com

Please please go for Ubuntu, we need all the users we can get. I will pay
you the cost of Windows 7 if you switch to Ubuntu. That's how desperate we
are!

*Sometimes* these work for me:

1. Go to Disk Manger or Windows Explorer, right-click on the DVD optical
drive in question and select "Eject". Seems to clear something.

2. Turn off the computer i.e. powered right off, and then cold boot the
computer - this also has done the trick for me at times.

'Hope on of these works for you,

Saucy

What Frank said, but I'd also try running sfc/scannow from a command prompt
as administrator.
