cannot find ms exchange server

A client had the vx2 spyware prog on his machine. I think
this did something to his Outlook program. Every time he
opens Outlook he gets: "Your Microsoft Exchange Server is
unavailable" Removed his account and tried to set up
again, but Outlook is unable to resolve his name. I am at
wits end, not much hair left to pull out! :) Thanks in
advance.
 
Can you ping the server by IP and by FQDN?
