Network: hub (Dlink) connect to cablemodem
Main computer to port 1, Laptop to port 2. (both run Windows XP Home)
Both computers connect without problems to the internet. I can ping the hub and other computer without a problem from both computers.
The 'Network setup wizard' works perfectly on the laptop and I have in the start menu 'Network places' but without info of other computer.
I have run the 'Network setup wizard' on the main computer already 10 times with all different options. But the 'Network place' does not appear. Workgroup is the same on both machines but remains empty on the main machine.
Using the 'net view' command I get error 53.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
peter

Can you ping both computers (Main Computer, Laptop) from other computers ?
Can this two computers ping each other (by ip_address and by computer_name)
?

I don't know if I understand you. Is it the same in System Properties /
Computer Name ?
What do you get if you start CMD and then NET CONFIG WORKSTATION
Look under Workstation Domain

Using the 'net view' command I get error 53.

Did you try net view ip_address ?

Any suggestions?
Thanks

1. Make sure File and Printer sharing and NetBIOS are enabled on both
machines.

2. Try to configure BlackICE to allow NetBIOS communication - or uninstall
it altogether. This kind of software is notoriously difficult to turn off.
