Cannot explore cd/dvd drive (works fine otherwise)

Hello,

I've seen this same problem posted in several places but I cannot seem
to find a solution. My cd/dvd-rw drive is working fine - I can burn
discs, play audio cds in itunes, etc. However, I cannot read the
contents of any disc via Windows Explorer. The disc is recognized in
the left hand pane as being the correct type (data, audio, dvd), but
when i select it to view the contents, the focus bounces back to the
last selected drive or location (C, Desktop, etc).

I have tried uninstalling drivers, rebooting and I even swapped
optical drives with another laptop of the same kind. My drive works
in the other laptop but the other working drive has the same exact
problem in my laptop.

Any suggestions? Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks.

Hello again,

Just in case anyone is interested in this problem or has experienced
it, I have found a work-around solution. If the drive is renamed to a
different letter (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Admin Tools/Computer
Management/Disk Management), the drive will then work normally.
However, if you rename it back to the old letter, it has the same
problems as before (ie cannot be read via Windows Explorer).
