"Cannot establish a connection ..."

Hi, all. Please, please help!

I'm working with VS.Net 2003 and (PDT 8100) PocketPC from Symbol.

For several weeks I've successfully been developing and debugging a sample
application using the compact framework.
The device was connected with my computer through the serial port.

Yesterday, I've tried the TCP connection using the network cradle - and the
problems started to appear.
First, the "Cannot establish a connection. Make sure your ..." appeared.
I've downloaded "WinCE utilities" from MS site, run the "DelDesktopCryptKey"
and have updated the registry using "ProxyPorts.reg" (in the process I've
upgraded my ActiveSync to the latest 3.7.1)

The problem with the connection was fixed. BUT, the application "refused" to
copy to the device: when I hit F5 (debug) the debugging process starts,
finishes and nothing happens - no error - the application was simply NOT
copied to the device.

Then, I decided to switch back to the serial connection ... and again the
"Cannot establish a connection ..." error.

I'm stuck. I've reinstalled VS, merged the ProxyPorts.reg once more, have
tried everything I can think of .... but nothing; VS simply wont connect to
the device!

ps.
I've forgot to mention: yes ActiveSync, my desktop computer IS connected to
the device (sync is working).

Hello Zarko,

when you want to debug on your mobile device you have to copy the
toolhelp.dll in the windows directory from your device.

greetings

Hi,

Both the toolhelp.dll and the wceload.exe are there.

I'm able to connect to device using ActiveSync. VS.NET 2003 refuses to
connect when I pick the
Tools | Connect to device... menu option.

evening everything works fine and in teh morning ....

1. I reinsalled Active Sysnc
2. I repaired (not a new install!) my installation
of .net 2003 and eyerything works like the hours before

I hope, that this helps

In ActiveSync ... Tools | Options | Rules ... Pass Through ... Connection :
The Internet (was Work) ... and it IS working. Jupi.

p.s.
What ever that means ;)

You might scan the archives for messages with the "Cannot establish a
connection" string in them. Ximing Zhou from Microsoft was instrumental in
helping me track down an actual OS error that was causing this problem
(required a QFE to fix the OS), and seems to be one of the Microsoft VS.NET
connections expert.

Here is a troubleshooting guide for connections:

Here's a thread from the archives with lots of suggestions:

Zarko,

You may need to reboot your device. Start with a soft reset. If that doesn't
work, try a cold boot.
