Cannot deploy from VS .NET 2003 to PPC 2002 device

Hi, all

I can't deploy a C# app from VS .NET 2003 to my Pocket PC 2002 device. I get
the classic message "Error: Cannot establish a connection. Be sure the
device is physically connected to the development computer.".

I have no trouble deploying from Embedded VC++ 3.0, and I have no trouble
copying files to and from the PPC, nor installing apps to it.

I'm using VS .NET 7.1.3088, ActiveSync 3.7.1 build 4034, and my PPC is a
ViewSonic V37.

I have installed the Windows CE Utilities, and tried several things
suggested elsewhere, like:

- uninstall & reinstall VS .NET
- uninstall ActiveSync, run ProxyPorts.reg, then reinstall ActiveSync
- run DelDesktopCryptKey
- run SDAuthUtilDevice on the PPC and copy the IP address (192.168.55.101)
into SDAuthUtil on the desktop; the latter could not connect
- run Select Windows CE Device CPU from the desktop & manually chose ARM4
- soft reset the PPC

I am open to any and all suggestions (short of junking the PPC ;^)

Cheers

Hi, Rick

Look like you've done almost things you could do...

In my experience, when I encounter this "Cannot establish a connection"
problem,
I'll try to run DelDesktopCryptKey, I forget it should be run when PDA is
cradled
or not. You can try run it twice with cradled and not cradled.

Other way is to reset PPC and reboot your PC, and then try again.

Woo-hoo! That did it!

The final step that made things work was to run DelDesktopCryptKey while the
PPC was connected, with a guest connection to ActiveSync.

Just before this, I rolled ActiveSync back to 3.7 build 3038, the one that
came with my PPC. I don't know whether that was a factor - and I'm not going
to experiment!

Thanks, Jan

You're welcome..
Experience sometimes works.. ;-)
Re-install VS.NET is always a heavy loading work that I won't do that so
often...

BTW, I heard that ActiveSync 3.7.1 improves the USB connectivity,
that might be a good choice for USB cradle.
