Cannot enable System Restore in Windows XP Home edition

When I installed a new Maxtor 80GB internal hard drive, I had to uninstall
GoBack 3.0 (Could not just disable it)
Now I can no longer access System Restore. Cannot create a new restore point
or restore to an earlier restore point. Is there a hot fix that can help me?

I have tried Microsoft automatic help and cannot find a solution. Before I
pay for a service call, can someone help.

Event ID:7023
Source:Service Control Manager
Version 5.0
System Event Log
EVENT_SERVICE_EXIT FAILED
Message: The %1 service terminated with the following error: %2

Error 3: system cannot find the path specified
C:\WINNT\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs

Also I am unable to reinstall GoBack from disk because of a DDO problem. I
would rather have System Restore working properly before I tackle the DDO
issue.

The GoBack software has probably disabled the System Restore Service from
running as they might interfere with each other.

Q. How can I verify that the System Restore services are running on my
computer?
A. Use the following procedure:

.. To verify that System Restore services are running from Control Panel:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance

2. Click Administrative Tools, Computer Management, then Services and
Applications.

3. Click Services, and then click System Restore Services. Ensure the
service is set to Automatic and the status is Started

.. To verify that System Restore services are running using the command
prompt:

1. Click Start, Run, then type CMD in the control box

2. Press Enter, then type Net Start at the command prompt
