Cannot edit Notes

I use Outlook 2002, usually just for simple task management. Today I
looked at Notes, and came across this odd problem.

I used New and keyed 'New Note' into the box. When I closed it by
clicking outside, that entry duly appeared in the main list. If I now
d-click it and edit it, to say 'New Note edited', after closing it
again the entry line still says 'New Note'. Yet if I open it again,
the box contains 'New Note edited'.

If I now try to close Outlook I get the unhelpful:
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

If I try again I get:
"The note will close and your changes will not be saved."

After eventually closing and re-opening Outlook, the main list still
says 'New Note', and when opened the box still says 'New Note edited'.

Anyone know what's going on here please, and how I might fix it?

That's just the way notes work. Once you create one, you can't change the subject for it by typing a new first line.

However, it shouldn't produce the error when closing it.

Thanks both. Understood. But it does indeed seem odd behaviour that
editing a note generates an error!
