cannot drop items on Quicklaunch toolbar

Twice now upon bootup I have discovered that the icons in my QL toolbar have
been changed, every one to something unrelated to the application they used
to point to. The flaoting description still seems OK. The first time I
deleted them and replaced them one by one. The second time I deleted them
all, but now cannot drop any replacements back in. The stippled part of the
bar just to the right of the START button refused to budge, so I cannot drag
it over to make room, and whenever I try to drop a shorcut on it, it either
casues the START button to its left to engage, or the mimized application to
its right to open back up on the desktop. I have tried the MS KB to no avail.

Are you sure you have "QL Toolbar" selected to display on task bar?
once task bar is unlocked and QL Toolbar has been selected, you can drag
right side of QL toolbar.

If QL is not selected, stippled part of task bar next to start button will
not move.

I figured it out now. I did have the QL toolbar active, but I see that I had
dragged one stippled area all the way to the right, just to the lst of the
"notification" area. I had thought that right-hand stippled area was
associated with the notifaction area on the far right. I had been trying to
drop shortcuts onto the left-hand stippled area. When I unchecked abd then
re-checked the QL, both stippled areas appeared on the left side, just to the
right of the START button. at this point I was able to drag them apart to
make a space to drop shorcuts.

Of course, my real problem is the strange mix-up of the icons in the first
place, which led me to delete them all. If it happens a third time I will
have to look into it further. Thanks for your help,
-Jeff
