When I click on an Adobe .pdf file on a website, I expext
adobe to open and download the file but all I get is a
little square in the top left of my screen. The address
bar does show http;//wwww....../download.pdf. I suspect
this is a privacy or security function stopping the
download. Can anyone help?

Have you tried reinstalling Adobe Acrobat Reader to see if this 'resets' it?

you have a damaged install of the IE viewer plugin. either
right click the linka and save the pdf so the "real"
viewer will work or resinstall.

I am trying to install witn first alert. However they said that I must get an administrative okay to do this. What do I do?

What is "first alert"? Who are "they"?

My hunch (based on a guess) is that you need to install (whatever it is
you are installing) when logged into the XP machine as "administrator".

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

I use IE 6 and have always been unable to download .pdf files from a secure site until recently. Then after I performed some Microsoft updates, I notice I could not open or download .pdf files from a secure site. Solution: Open I
Click on menu bar: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced. Uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to disk". This resolved the problem for me.
