Cannot download online pictures as jpegs

When I had Windows 98, I would right-click a photo, hit "save as", and I
could save an online picture as a jpeg file. Now with XP, it only allows me
to choose between .art files (what's that? Even XP doesn't recognize them!!)
and .bmp files, which are not as high-quality as jpegs. What's up with this?
I tried deleting my temporary internet files (and why the heck should THAT
matter, but I did anyhow) but it still doesn't work. Can somebody help me???

Basically, you need to clean up your temporary Internet files.

Internet Explorer Does Not Save Graphics Files in Proper Format

And, FYI, a file with an ".art" extension could be any one of these:

Xara Studio drawing
Canon Crayola art
Clip Art
Ray Tracer file
First Publisher Raster graphic
AOL Image file compressed using the Johson-Grace compression algorithm

Thank you, Bruce. This did work for Internet Explorer, but did not work when
you use the AOL browser. But that's not a big deal, I can just open IE. I
wonder, though: why does Microsoft make it so hard & stupid to do a simple
thing like this? I guess that's a rhetorical question.

Katie,

You're blaming the wrong corporation. Microsoft didn't build the
specialized AOL browser or make it use the AOL (.art) picture file
format by default. That default was set when you loaded the AOL
software. You could change the option in your AOL, and if you have
trouble finding that, AOL technical support can help you. They owe you
the assistance because of the fee's you pay them each month. You could
probably also find the answer in AOL Help.

Thanks, Rodney. I did contact AOL and they told me how to do it. I
appreciate the suggestion. Although I still don't understand why I have to
delete my temporary internet files in IE to accomplish this either :)
