My pc doesnt detect my camera or card reader when plugged into USB. Both work ok on other PC's. cant get photos off camera because it say's it is not connected?? No other drivers available.

If it's a Via chipset on your motherboard, this could be the problem.
Usually, on such systems you can force XP to recognize your USB device by
going to Control Panel | double-click the System icon | click the hardware
tab | click the Device manager button | right-click the tiny PC at the top
of the "tree" and left-click to select "scan for hardware changes." HTH

.....if yours is a USB low voltage / signal problem, you can buy externally
powered USB hubs :-)

Are you using full charged batteries in the camera or an
external power to the camera. This is noted in my Fuji
camera manual. I now use a card reader (Lexar USB 2.0 Multi
reader $28 at Wal-Mart) rather than connecting the camera.

i have tried your first suggestion, no change.will try external powered hub. ta for help. Les

....other thoughts...you have got your USB ports switched on in bios, and
present in Device manager ?
Info:-
From http://www.talkroot.com/archive/topic/23853-1.html
"USB devices are supposed to draw between 50 and 500 milliamps. If your
camera is drawing more than 500 milliamps, the
port can't provide it. And along the same lines, if the camera draws less
than 50 milliamps, the port will not recognize it.
Commonly, you can spot this problem if a peripheral works on a powered hub,
but not with a port. It will also show up if other peripherals are working,
but then quit when the device with a problem is hooked up."
