I have an empty folder on my D Drive (Data). It's stopping defragmenter
unning. When I try to delete it, I get the message that the file cannot be
deleted as it is corrupted and unreadable. (Win XP Pro SP2)

Boot into safe mode and see if you can delete it. Hit F8 when your computer
is booting. Choose safe mode.

Same answer as your multipost in microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain

Run Error Checking | Reboot | Try to delete the folder again.

1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click the volume you want to
check, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
3. Select both of these:

o Automatically fix file system errors
o Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

For a peek at the chkdisk log.
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | OK
Look in Application | Listed as Information
under Winlogon, Event 1001
