Cannot delete calendar item

My company uses Outlook 2000 with Exchange. I created a
recurring calendar item about a year ago to remind me to
do something each morning. I no longer need that
reminder - so I attempted to delete the item. I openned
it up - selected "All occurrences" and deleted it. No
problem. The item does not show on my calendar anymore -
anywhere - however - I am still getting the reminders
faithfully every morning. When I select "Open Item" the
old item is displayed. When I try to delete it, it gives
me an error dialog that says "Could not complete the
deletion. The items may have been already deleted or
moved."

How do I get rid of this thing?

Try starting Outlook once with the /CleanReminders switch. If you need help
